Contact Us Praise Report: Please join us in thanking God for the following items: For the tremendous support and for the funds donated towards the Feed the 5000 project. For Debra`s improved condition and her health without needing chemo therapy. For our new intern from North Coast Church, Jesse Morquecho joining us for a full year. Prayer Requests: Please join us in praying for the following items: That God will continue to develop in us an intimate relationship with Him. This is first above all else. For Debra`s continued improvement in strength and health, and for the complete healing of her cancer. That God will continue to touch those who are willing to support us monthly as we work in South Africa. For the continued success in the completion of the Food Center and distribution to feeding programs within the community. For our safe return to Africa on the 17th and arriving with all our luggage. For many to be drawn to God`s word in our startup of the small groups and school programs. For our new small group leaders and interns to be strong in their witness, attend church, and for their daily protection. That God would be glorified in all our work, words, and ways. |
Well here it is the start of a new year and the start of our 4th year in South Africa. Man, that`s just so hard to believe. There is so much that has happened since we came back to the States in October that I want to bring you up to date. It has been a wild and crazy few months and we are now looking forward to our return to Paarl on the 17th of February.
First let me give you an update on Debra and her fight with Lymphoma. After a radical change in diet and daily doses of a new supplement, I think we are starting to win the battle against this cancer. The Doctor`s report showed that there was no significant increase at this time. YIPEEE! While it looks like we maybe winning we know that for this type of cancer the war is not over yet. We plan to return to the States again in June for another scan, and we are praying that the results from that scan will show even more improvement.
We are very excited about returning to our home in South Africa and joining back up with the MCM team there. I have to admit that we have had a wonderful time staying at our daughter Jennifer`s house. It was fun having the time with our granddaughters. We also got to spend a little time with Mark and Kemlyn during their Christmas visit from New Mexico. It was so much fun having little Riley around for Christmas. He gets all the really cool toys. We did see David, but not as much as we would have liked. It seems the Architecture business he has started is doing well but is consuming all of his time.
Our family at Christmas
This is so cool! I mean really cool - It`s a refrigerator container! I received word late in December that we had finally found a 40 foot refrigerator container to purchase for the Food Center. My good friend Rob Koch in Paarl graciously took over for me in my absence and did a phenomenal job. Rob not only located the container, but he also made all the arrangements to have it delivered and installed.
The container arrives! Taking it off the truck.
Moving it in. In Place.
I know for some of you that this is a weird thing to get so excited about, but trust me, it is really exciting. The refrigerator container is the cornerstone piece of equipment necessary for us to set up and run our Food Center. It is also the largest item and needed to be put in place before we can complete the remodeling of the space and start moving in the rest of the equipment. Without the refrigerator container we would not be able to take in the donations of vegetables and meat from the local farmers when they have it available to us.
There is still a lot of work to do on the Food Center, and a lot more items to purchase before we can get everything up and running. I am just so excited to get back to Paarl and see it all come together.
This one really knocked my socks off! While we didn`t really plan to do any major fund raising for the Food Center while we were back here in the States, it seems the Lord had other plans.
It all started when we traveled to Roswell, New Mexico to visit Debra`s mom, brothers, nieces and nephews. While we were there we visited Christ Church, the Church were Deb`s Mom and here older brother regularly attend. We have visited there almost every time we have been to Roswell. Well to make a long story short, it turns out that they are very interested in supporting our ministry in South Africa. While we were there Lonnie, one of the pastors, came up and handed me a check for $2,400 to go towards the purchase of the refrigerator container. I just about fell over!
But wait, there`s more. Shortly after we returned from Roswell I received a phone call from Lonnie. He wanted to inform me that their Board had decided to give another $1,500 towards the container! Is that awesome or what!
And it gets even better! While visiting with Chris Brown, our pastor at our home church here in California he suggested that we plan a little "Edge in Africa" weekend to tell folks in the Edge (the venue in our church that supports us) about the Food Center and the Feed the 5000 project. So in the middle of January we did just that. Well the results are in! It turns out that members of North Coast Church have donated over $40,000 to the Feed the 5000 project. that`s right FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS U.S. That is truly a God thing! Our total donations to date put us well on the way to completing the purchase of the rest of the equipment we need and will complete the construction.
