2008 MCM Discipleship Year End Report...

  • Six interns lived in the Monte Christo House for a cross-cultural living and discipleship experience. A first for MCM.
  • Mbekweni interns experienced many things for the first time, from American foods cooked by their roommates, to opportunities to speak on the radio in Paarl.
  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 leaders met once a month for a meal and training in the upper room at the coffee shop. A guest MCM speaker would come and share about his or her area of ministry every week.
  • Worked with the short-term team (from Coastline, Daybreak and North Coast churches) in the community to paint the Lukhanyo Youth Development building.
  • Held a women’s retreat at the Monte Christo Farm with Lighthouse Paarl and CrossWinds Church.
  • Held two holiday clubs using our friends from Mbekweni to help in Paarl East and then took our Paarl East friends to help in Mbekweni (with the help of the interns and CrossWinds Church).
  • Held an interracial youth camp at the MCM farm. More than 120 students attended: black, colored, white and American. Azusa Pacific helped out with our interns. Nearly 30 made first-time commitments and many more recommitted their lives to God.
  • Lukhanyo held its first annual talent show in Paarl Town Hall in central Paarl. More than 100 people from Mbekweni were bussed in; most had never been in town hall before.
  • The girls small group from Mbekweni met faithfully three times a week studying the curriculum and praying together. Once a month they prayed in the Prayer Room at the coffee shop.
  • Took a group of Girl’s High girls to go help with the discipleship at Lukhanyo.
  • Helped rebuild Khanya’s shack in Mbekweni by putting in a cement floor.
  • Andiswe and Yolanda hosted the first-ever Girl’s Night Out at Chris Hani Community Center in Mbekweni. A guest speaker led the discussion on HIV/AIDS.
  • Began relationship with La Rochelle matric girls.
  • Short-term outreach to Namibia.
  • Interns shadowed local NGO leaders and business professionals in their respective fields.
  • Second Girls Night Out in Mbekweni. Guest speakers, including Andiswe, discussed teen pregnancy with the girls.
