Basic Needs Ministry

One of the common elements in MCM's target communities is poverty. The basic needs of food, shelter and clothing can be a daily struggle. Without these basic needs, hope seems hard to grasp.

MCM is committed to help the community of Drakenstein fight the impacts of poverty. In partnership with many local organizations, we want to be a part of a long-term solution to the basic needs of the downtrodden in our communities.

To this end, we are working in a number of areas. The first has to do with hunger. For 2008, MCM is beginning our efforts to provide meals to those in need in our community. We are going to begin a soup and bread manufacturing facility in our new warehouse in Dal Josephat. We'll provide more information soon!

HIV and AIDS is a major health concern in our area as well. With this knowledge, MCM has partnered with Drakenstein Hospice and others to develop Butterfly House, a new resource and care facility in Fairyland that will serve children and families infected and impacted by HIV and AIDS. For more information on Butterfly House, click HERE

On January 26, 2008 construction began on Butterfly House, an HIV/AIDS community resource center in the heart of the Fairyland community.
The venue opened November 2, 2008. Butterfly House is a day center whose staff assists those living with HIV-infected and affected children.
In order to cater to clients' emotional, social, spiritual, cultural and educational needs, Butterfly House focuses on hygiene, food security, jobs creation, pre-school and after school education and skills development.
